  • Surgical Facility Having your treatment for cancer in an accredited surgical facility by skilled and qualified medical staff is a critical factor. Moreover, the geographical location of this facility in India also affects the treatment cost. But, MediTraWell provides you with a projected estimate that will be all-inclusive and affordable.
  • Pre and Post Treatment Expenses The pre-surgical/treatment expenses are associated with the stage of the cancer and medical condition of the patient and thus the number and type of investigations and treatment required. What is Skin Cancer?

Skin cancer – the abnormal growth of skin cells – most often develops on skin exposed to the sun. But this common form of cancer can also occur on areas of your skin not ordinarily exposed to sunlight.

There are three major types of skin cancer –

  • Basal cell carcinoma: Basal cell carcinoma usually occurs in sun-exposed areas of your body, such as your neck or face.
  • Squamous cell carcinoma: Most often, squamous cell carcinoma occurs on sun-exposed areas of your body, such as your face, ears and hands.
  • Melanoma: Melanoma can develop anywhere on your body, in otherwise normal skin or in an existing mole that becomes cancerous.

Candidate for Skin Cancer Treatment

Make an appointment with your doctor if you have any signs or symptoms that concern you. Also make an appointment with your doctor if you have other signs or symptoms that worry you. If you are found to suffer from skin cancer, the treatment should be started immediately.

Skin Cancer Treatment Options

Your recommended treatment plan will depend on different factors, like the size, location, type, and stage of your skin cancer. After considering these factors, your healthcare team may recommend one or more of the following treatments:

Cryotherapy: The growth is frozen using liquid nitrogen and the tissue is destroyed as it thaws.

Excisional surgery: The growth and some of the healthy skin surrounding it are cut out.

Mohs surgery: The growth is removed layer by layer, and each layer is examined under a microscope until no abnormal cells are visible.

Curettage and Electrodessication: A long spoon-shaped blade is used to scrape away the cancer cells, and the remaining cancer cells are burned using an electric needle.

Chemotherapy: Drugs are taken orally, applied topically, or injected with a needle or IV line to kill the cancer cells.

Photodynamic therapy: A laser light and drugs are used to destroy the cancer cells.

Radiation: High-powered energy beams are used to kill the cancer cells.

Biological therapy: Biological treatments are used to stimulate your immune system to fight the cancer cells.

Immunotherapy: A cream is applied to your skin to stimulate your immune system to kill the cancer cells.

How is Skin Cancer Treatment done?

What is the Recovery after Skin Cancer Treatment like?

After surgery, you may be prescribed antibiotics to help prevent infection.

The surgical site will be covered with a bandage before you leave. You should leave this bandage on for 24 to 48 hours. Your doctor will instruct you on when to remove the bandage and on the type of wound care you should use. Using ice packs is a common recommendation.

Ask your doctor what type of medication you should take if you experience postsurgical discomfort.

Follow the doctor’s recommendations to improve your recovery.

What Results Can I Expect from Skin Cancer Treatment?

The results are gratifying after the surgery and the treatment. Mohs micrographic surgery is a highly effective treatment for the removal of certain types of skin cancer lesions. It is still the most successful and least invasive technique for removing skin cancers.
