Dr. Kodaganur S. Gopinath, MS, FAMS, FRCS (Edin) is a highly renowned surgical oncologist who is noted for his groundbreaking work in cancer research. He has received numerous awards, including the Dr. B. C. Roy Award, which is considered the country’s highest medical honour. In 2010, the President of India awarded him the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian award, for his contributions to oncology.
Dr. Gopinath received his medical training from JJM Medical College in Davangere in 1968 and graduated with a third-place MBBS degree in 1975. He went on to do his further training (MS) in surgery from The King Edward Memorial Hospital and Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas Medical College in Mumbai. He then went on to get FRCS and FAMS from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the National Academy of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, respectively.

Dr. Gopinath joined Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology in Bangalore as a surgical oncologist after returning from Edinburgh, and worked there until 1989, when he began work at the Bangalore Institute of Oncology. He is the Director and Consultant Surgical Oncologist at the Bangalore Institute of Oncology and Ambuja Health Care, as well as the Director and Consultant Surgical Oncologist at Healthcare Global Enterprise (HCG), one of the world’s largest cancer care providers.
