A surgeon and pioneer in the field of liver transplantation, Dr. Arvinder Singh Soin is credited with pioneering the Liver Transplant Surgery in India. Dr. Arvinder Singh Soin currently holds the position of Chairman of the Liver Transplantation and Regenerative Medicine department at the renowned Medanta, The Medicity, Gurgaon. Dr. Soin is also the director of the Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital’s Liver Transplant Institute in Mumbai.
Dr. Soin was among the first surgeons in the United Kingdom to achieve an Intercollegiate FRCS in Transplant Surgery.
Dr. Soin has conducted more than 3500 living donor liver transplants in India, as well as over 12000 more complicated liver, gallbladder, and bile duct surgeries, making him the country’s and world’s leading surgeon.
Liver cancer, Cirrhosis, Bile Duct cancer, Gallbladder cancer, Biliary stricture, Liver Cyst, Liver Metastases, and Biliary Atresia are just a few of the diseases in which he specializes.
In 2010, the President of India awarded him the Padma Shri for his contribution to the field. He has also been conferred with many prestigious awards and accolades in India and across the world.
Dr Soin studied medicine and surgery in India and the United Kingdom. He earned his MBBS and MS degrees at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, where he spent 11 years. Following that, he continued more education in order to get expert experience in Liver and Gastrointestinal Surgery, during which time he worked on his research thesis on Portal Hypertensive Gastropathy. He also earned FRCS (Fellowship of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons) degrees in Glasgow and Edinburgh, both in the United Kingdom.
Dr. A S Soin is known for his groundbreaking research in the field of liver transplantation, as well as for initiating Liver Transplantation in India in 1998, when he conducted the first successful transplant in the country. He did successful transplant research at Cambridge, with more than 110 original research papers and book contributions published in international and national journals and publications.
